but at the first few levels, Sea Raiders and Steppe Bandits are both a nightmare to fight. Sure, once you've got a few levels under your belt. Should I strengthen the warband through training and recruitment, try trading in goods, or run around trying to kill looters? Olga's warband made their way to the training ground, pausing only briefly to run down some looters, and after a lot of false tries, Olga managed to defeat three novice fighters in a row(!) for 100 xp. I decided that it might be a good idea to train the troops up before we took the fight to the kidnappers. While looting the bodies (the most important part of any battle, I found there was a book worth more than Olga's entire warband in the inventory. The merchant pointed us in the direction of a band of robbers just outside the city limits.Īll but one were promptly cut down, at a cost of only one recruit, and the robber squealed on his buddies and told us the location of the kidnappers. Olga did the rounds of the villages, hiring 8 Vaegir recruits to bolster her forces, before making her way back to Reyvardin.

First stop: the tavern, to see if there're any free heroes available.Īs luck would have it, both Marnid and Ymira were there, giving the party a welcome boost to medical skills and trade, although at their current fighting skill they'd go down to a housecat. Olga accepted, and was told to gather five men and return to the merchant. Fortunately, he was dispatched with great dispatch,Īfter which a merchant bustled his way into the bigger picture and offered a fair amount of money for the rescue of his brother. The town of Reyvardin brought with it warm, shelter, ale, and a man trying to kill Olga. With a face courtesy of clicking the randomise button until something more human came up. Points in leadership becuase you'd be a fool not to, pathfinding so as to run away faster, and persuasion so Olga did get caught she'd have to pay less money to get away. In the end I went for a fairly non-physical character (because all of the warrior types tended to die really quickly. Fully trained, they become Sword sisters, who are both an awesome cavalry troop, and cheaper than most cavalry units to boot! You do need to grind a lot with them in the training yards, though, or they'll get killed in the first fight they're in (Camp Defenders are where they start getting good) Also, keep an eye out for bandits who've captured peasant women. Horse archery is awesome if you can pull it off, although khergit troops are too stupid to be very accurate with their bows.ĮDIT: As far as factions go, I prefer Swadians or Vaegirs, and building up an awesome force of heavy cavalry. Also, laidies in waiting start with an excellent horse, while everyone else starts with junk.Īlso, Nobles start with a lot more renown, making it easier to get a fief. Also, you can easily earn the eternal love of a lord by rescuing from prison), and your skills are better set up. Courtship is easier (you can run errands for your prospective husband to raise relationship. This way, you'll have an easier time getting a hold of a city or castle, which is what you really want). However, courtship is more difficult, and you start with worse skill selection.įemales have a harder time getting renown, don't get a fief when they join a kingdom (not really a disadvantage, since a regular fief is a pain in the butt that will likely just get pillaged. Males start with more renown, and their wives can manage their kingdom in the lieu of a companion. If there's any game concept you don't understand, just ask. Based on among others, the Turks, they have highly specialised light infantry and heavy cavalry. The Sarranid Sultanate are a powerful if fragile desert-dwelling kingdom. The Kingdom of the Rhodoks, a mountain dwelling kingdom, with strong and stoic infantry that form excellent shieldwalls and crossbow lines. Nordic troops are excellent on the attack and defense, but lack mobility. The Kingdom of the Nords, Vikings with throwing axes. Unsurprised, they make great use of horse archers and light cavalry, making them fast and effective in an open environment.

The Khergit Kharnate, Mongols by any other name. The Kingdom of the Vaegirs, a Russian expy that uses powerful archers and a strong core of infantry to produce numerically strong armies. The Kingdom of Swadia, based on a typical feudal European kingdom, known for it's devastating if expensive heavy cavalry. Map Basically, there are six factions all based on verious feudal nations.
